ignoránce

Everything we do, we do because we want to achieve something. We have an imagined state of being in our heads and we strive to reach it. Be it reaching for the sandwich, or applying for a new job. So, in doing, we try to change our current persona, or state of mind. Thus, a rock, for example, is perfectly content. It is also inanimate and cannot think (at least in the manner that we do). This, my friends, is why ignorance is bliss. For wisdom grants us the awareness of "more".

The grass is indeed greener

Bro you should totally show my comments and respond to them so we can get some activity in yer blog :) You could also tell me if the comments're starting to annoy you because I sooo will stop. I just do things for the sake of discussion, not because I actually hold any opinions. ^^ So to business:

To apply "the grass is greener" to every action that something "alive" executes is appreciateable because it demonstrates something in a simple way.

Every action IS executed because in that moment the executor wants to execute it. Involuntary actions count as well here since we aren't talking just of conscious decisions; if a being jumps in fear when startled it does so because the being makes the choice to, whether driven by logical discussion or not in its choice to do so. The action executed will bring the executor from the current state to a state that is in that moment more desirable to the executor, consciously or not. Someone that chooses to suffer or die will choose so because that is more desirable than the alternative in the mind of the executor at that moment, whatever reason one has. Hence, the grass is greener and the greener grass is what motivates all of our actions.

This, however, shows something more as well. The falseness of self-control, for one. If one always takes a decision that to oneself is more desirable, then self-control is just self-indulgence. Awesome. If I choose to control myself by NOT having that delicious soma, then I give into the urge of not giving into the urge, gaining perhaps not more longterm satisfaction but the greatest momentary satisfaction from that alternative out of the two. So if self-control is false, because it is indulgence the same as everything else, what is there to do? Do what thou please, and do what thou wilt. They ARE the whole of the law. Indulge yourself, because you can never take a decision that you aren't indulging yourself with. If this is so, take the decisions that DO lead to the most long-term pleasure. Take the soma, because the satisfaction that MOMENT might be greater, but you'll enjoy that soma-induced drug-haze for two hours more than you'll enjoy the cold satisfaction of not having taken the soma. The world shall fry, pleasantly, and all the juices will make for a pleasant steak :G Peace out, broham. Brougham the first!
